Member of the Syrian Coalition Abdul Hakim Bashar condemns the PYD militants’ disruption of a funeral procession for fighters killed fighting ISIS in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region. During the funeral, held Al-Qahtaniya near Qamishli, PYD militants arrested members of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and a number of participants in the funeral.
Bashar said that these practices stem from the PYD’s fear of any gatherings because they realize that they are the de facto authority and not elected by the Kurdish community. Hence they feel threatened by any gathering of people or popular movement outside their authority.
Bashar points out that the PYD should have participated in the funeral instead of disrupting it, describing this act as irrational and repressive.
The Kurdish National Council in Syria strongly condemns the terrorist practices carried out by the Democratic Union Party (PYD) against Syrian Kurds, calling on the Kurdish forces and the international community in general to act urgently to put an end to these reckless practices and protect civilians in the PYD-controlled areas.
The Kurdish National Council renews its rejection of PYD’s projects and policies aimed at starvation and harassment of the civilian population. It also denounces the PYD’s imposition of forced recruitment, arbitrary detention, the imposition of taxes, seizure of homes and property of the displaced persons, the imposition of ideologized educational curricula, and other violations and abuses that were reported by media and human rights organizations at home and abroad.
