The Coordinator of the Foreign Relations Department of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdulahad Astepho, expressed gratitude to Qatar for its unwavering support for the Syrian people, particularly during this critical and sensitive period. The latest manifestation of this support is the establishment of an airbridge delivering humanitarian aid to Syria.
In a press statement, Astepho emphasized that Syria now urgently needs the backing of its Arab neighbors to navigate towards safety. This includes providing humanitarian and relief aid as well as supporting the completion of a political transition through the formation of a transitional governing body representing all segments, ethnicities, and religions of the Syrian population.
On Tuesday, Qatar announced the launch of an airbridge carrying humanitarian aid to Syria, with the first aircraft arriving in Gaziantep, southern Türkiye, near the Syrian border.
A statement by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the arrival of the first Qatari Armed Forces aircraft is in response to directives from Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, as part of an airbridge to assist Syrians in need.
The statement explained that the aircraft carried food supplies, medical equipment, and shelter materials provided by the Qatar Fund for Development. This initiative aligns with Qatar’s longstanding supportive stance towards Syria and its commitment to standing by the Syrian people.
