Haytham Rahmeh, the Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), has strongly condemned the ongoing violence in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, which he described as acts of genocide against a defenseless population. This condemnation comes in the wake of the Israeli occupation’s continuing massacres, resulting in the deaths and injuries of approximately 400 civilians due to the bombing of the Jabalia camp on Tuesday.
Rahmeh expressed his deep concern, highlighting that the events in Gaza pose a grave threat to an entire population, particularly given the international community’s apparent inaction in the face of these crimes. He noted the absence of effective pressure on the Israeli occupation to halt its atrocities.
The Secretary-General stressed the need for people and countries worldwide to stand in support of oppressed populations striving for freedom and independence, especially in Palestine and Syria.
Rahmeh cautioned that the Israeli occupation’s attacks constitute a systematic targeting of civilians and the general aspects of life in Gaza, leading to numerous war crimes and crimes against humanity. However, the international community has remained silent, leaving the Palestinian people to face mass casualties. This is occurring simultaneously with the continued bombardment of Idlib and its surroundings by the Assad regime and its allies, who are committing further crimes against civilians.
Rahmeh emphasized that the international community’s failure, as well as that of the Security Council, the United Nations, and human rights organizations, to intervene in violent conflicts worldwide has eroded people’s faith in the effectiveness and influence of these organizations.
