Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, stressed that the latest batch of US sanctions on companies affiliated with the Iranian mullahs’ regime may not be decisive, but can reduce the area of their spread and expose the companies that Iran uses as a front to circumvent the sanctions.
Haytham Rahmeh said that real economic pressure on the Iranian regime would weaken Iran’s influence and rein in its criminal militias in Syria.
Haytham Rahmeh added that Iran has a direct role in disrupting the security and stability of Syria and the countries of the region. He stressed that security and stability cannot be restored in these countries as long as the Iranian regime continues its blatant military, political and even economic interference in these countries. He made it clear that economic sanctions against Iran will contribute to weakening its subversive role in the region.
Haytham Rahmeh pointed out that besides supporting the criminal Assad regime in Syria against the Syrian people and perpetrating massacres and crimes against civilians alongside the Assad regime and Russian forces, the Iranian mullahs’ regime is also spreading sectarianism in Syria and seeking to bring about demographic change by bringing families of Iranian militias to settle in Syria instead of the indigenous population.
The US Treasury on Thursday announced that it had imposed new sanctions a network of Iranian petrochemical producers, as well as front companies in China and the United Arab Emirates that helps effectuate international transactions and evade sanctions, supporting the sale of Iranian petrochemical products to customers in China and the rest of East Asia.
