Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, stressed that Russia has started using the Assad regime as a means of looting Ukrainian grain, warning of the consequences if the international community continues to overlook the Assad regime’s actions and the roles it is playing in the service of Russia and Iran.
Rahmeh reiterated that the Assad has harnessed all state resources and institutions to serve Russia and Iran in exchange for shoring up his regime and thwarting attempts to achieve a political solution in the country.
Rahmeh pointed out that the Assad regime is to blame for the destruction of Syria and the spread of sectarian militias and drugs. He added: “Now the Assad regime is partnering with Russia in stealing Ukrainian grain, then selling it at exorbitant prices to the Syrian people.”
He stressed the need for the international community to take firm measures to prevent the Assad regime from supporting Russia in its war on Ukraine, or allowing it to continue stealing Ukrainian grain, a theft that is now affecting the whole world.
