Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, has emphasized that Iran’s intention to establish a joint bank with the Assad regime in Syria is part of its strategy to dominate the Syrian economy and society. This move is seen in parallel with the deployment of its sectarian militias in various Syrian regions.
Rahmeh highlighted in a press statement that Iran is seeking to establish a foothold in Syria, ensuring its presence in the country in case its militias face threats of withdrawal. He added that the Assad regime actively supports Iran’s endeavors, providing it with all necessary facilitations to implement its plans.
Furthermore, Rahmeh emphasized that the Assad regime bears complete responsibility for empowering Iran to control Syria’s resources and assets, while also permitting the infiltration of Syrian society to secure Iran’s continued presence in the country.
He further pointed out that the sustained Iranian influence in Syria poses a long-term threat to Syrian society and represents a significant menace to the security and stability of the region.
