Haytham Rahmeh, Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), said that the Assad regime is seeking, through decisions it is issuing, to legitimize the violations it is carrying out against the Syrian people. He said that the regime has transformed its theft of the property of the displaced Syrians from agricultural lands and others into a law whereby it loots whatever it wants.
“The Assad regime considers fleeing its missiles and bombs a crime, so it allowed its militias to steal the property and livelihood of the displaced people through its laws that violate all human rights and international laws,” Rahmeh added
Rahmeh pointed out that the Assad regime is seeking, by allowing its allied militias to steal property under the so-called investment, to please its allied militias in view of the crippling economic crises it is going through.
He warned that the practices and violations exposed the falsehood of the regime’s claims and thise of its Russian backer that they want the return of the Syrian refugees. He stressed that the Assad regime and its backers have not abandoned their criminal approach against the Syrian people represented in killing, oppression, looting and various violations.
Rahmeh called on the United Nations to assume its responsibilities towards the regime’s continuous violations against the Syrian people, and to stop dealing with the Assad regime and providing opportunities for it, because it is an illegal extermination regime that does not represent the Syrian people. He also called for making real efforts and the establishment of a clear mechanism that guarantees the implementation of UN Resolution 2254 and achieving a real political transition.
