Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, stressed that the threats that the Assad regime has recently issued against the people of Suwayda exposed the true, sectarian, criminal nature of this regime.
Rahmeh pointed out that these threats are reminiscent of the brutality of the Assad regime and its militias, and of the way they dealt with the Syrian people who demonstrated peacefully eleven years ago.
“We support the anti-regime protests in Suwayda as we condemn the Assad regime’s brutal crackdown against unarmed civilians,” Rahmeh said.
Rahma stressed that the Syrian people from all religious and ethnic backgrounds stand united against the tyranny of the Assad regime, the criminality of its backers and the sectarian militias it brought to Syria where they are spreading destruction, murder and hatred.
“Brutality is a prominent feature of the Assad regime, and it will not abandon it in light of the international silence on its crimes and its failure to ensure accountability.”
Rahmeh called on the international community to stop ignoring the demands of Syrian civilians, and not to leave them an easy prey to the Assad regime, which has not stopped committing massacres against civilians.
Rahmeh pointed out that the Suwayda anti-regime demonstrations confirm the rejection of all the Syrian people to this regime, which has destroyed Syria and obstructed any political process leading to meeting the demands of the Syrian people.
