The Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, expressed appreciation for the statements made by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Fidan has recently stated that Türkiye is fully committed to the integrity of Syrian territories and its political unity, and it will continue to combat terrorist organizations in Syria, most notably the PKK.
Rahmeh emphasized that the efforts of the Turkish state in countering terrorist organizations in northern Syria benefit the shared interests of both Syria and Türkiye. He highlighted the danger posed by the terrorist PYD militia, stating that it threatens the region in general and the security of both countries.
“We are working collaboratively with Türkiye to repel the threat of separatist militias, and we maintain a high level of political, military, and security coordination with them to serve the interests of both countries,” Rahmeh stated.
He added, “Türkiye’s commitment to the political process and its support for UN Security Council Resolution 2254, alongside its efforts to combat terrorism, is appreciated and welcomed by the Syrian revolution forces. These forces adhere to this resolution and call on influential countries in Syria to fulfill their responsibilities and implement the resolution, aiming to achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people.”
Rahmeh noted that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s statements, made during the discussion of the Foreign Ministry’s 2024 budget in the Turkish Parliament, provide reassurances to the Syrian people who continue to demand the implementation of the political transition in the country.
The Turkish Foreign Minister reiterated Ankara’s support for the political solution in Syria, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254. He indicated that Türkiye is continuing its efforts both on the field and at the negotiation table to achieve these goals. Additionally, he noted that Türkiye is steadfast in its struggle to prevent the establishment of a terrorist state in northern Syria.
