Haytham Rahmeh, the Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), expressed his appreciation for the recent Turkish military operation targeting the leader of the ISIS terrorist group in the Jinderes district of the Afrin region. He commended the tireless efforts of Türkiye and the Syrian National Army in pursuing the organization’s cells, which spread chaos and destruction wherever they go.
Rahmeh emphasized that ISIS poses a severe threat to the Syrian revolution and has consistently worked against it since its inception. He noted that the group has always expanded at the expense of the revolution’s armed groups in the liberated areas. Furthermore, he stressed that ISIS’s ideology and actions do not align with the Syrian society that rejects extremism. Instead, all of its activities since its creation have served the interests of the Assad regime.
Rahmeh also asserted that the security services of the Assad regime and the Iranian regime raised and trained ISIS, making it their most lethal tool in combating the revolution and assassinating its leaders, particularly those who defected from the regime’s army. He also stated that ISIS continues to move freely in the areas under the control of the PYD terrorist militia, allowing it to survive and conduct terrorist operations against the Syrian people.
Finally, Rahmeh highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between the Syrian National Army and the Turkish army in tracking down the cells of ISIS and other organizations that threaten the security and safety of the liberated areas.
