Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, has condemned the ongoing events in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, characterizing them as a genocide against millions of innocent people. Rahmeh highlighted the international community’s failure, which he argues serves as a green light for the Israeli occupation to persist in its aggressive actions.
Commenting specifically on the Israeli occupation forces’ recent storming of the Shifa Hospital in Gaza, Rahmeh asserted, “The occupation forces demonstrate a total disregard for international laws and norms, violating them daily. The sustained targeting of hospitals following siege necessitates immediate international action to hold them accountable and put an end to this crime, preventing further catastrophic massacres.”
Expressing disappointment in the international response to the Palestinian issue, Rahmeh emphasized that the death toll has surpassed 11,000 Palestinians, with tens of thousands more injured. Drawing parallels to the Syrian conflict, he noted a similar letdown when the Syrian people were left to face the missiles of the Assad regime and its allies.
Despite the challenges faced by the Syrian people under the brutality of the Assad regime and its allies since 2011, Rahmeh commended the solidarity shown by the Syrian people with their Palestinian counterparts. He stressed that both Syrians and Palestinians share a common aspiration for freedom, independence, and liberation from dictatorship and occupation.
