The Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, expressed gratitude to Ukraine for its decision to cancel the trade, economic, and technical cooperation agreement with the Assad regime. He emphasized that this move is a step in the right direction towards stripping the Assad regime of all international legitimacy and expelling its representatives from the United Nations and its organizations.
Rahmeh stressed that the Assad regime has become a mere tool serving Putin’s expansionist goals and war efforts in Syria and Ukraine. The regime’s active involvement in committing large-scale war crimes not only violates the rights of the Syrian people but also poses a grave threat to global peace and security, he added.
Furthermore, Rahmeh emphasized that the Assad regime does not represent the Syrian people, and its actions supporting Russia do not represent Syria. He called on the countries of the world to sever all ties with the regime as a natural response to its atrocities and destruction of Syria and its people.
Rahmeh warned against the dangers of attempting to normalize relations with the Assad regime and reaffirmed their ineffectiveness and futility. He urged neighboring countries and the international community to be aware of the harm this approach poses to the Syrian people and neighboring countries. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
