Haytham Rahmeh, the Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), has strongly condemned the ruthless attacks on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. He characterizes the Israeli occupation’s actions against civilians in Gaza as war crimes and crimes against humanity, emphasizing the urgency of international community, international organizations, and the Arab League’s intervention to halt the daily massacres endured by the people of Gaza.
Rahmeh underlines that, in accordance with the Rome Statute, the forced displacement of civilians, whether in Gaza or Syria, constitutes a crime against humanity when directed against a civilian population, especially when carried out on a large scale or systematically.
He further states, “We have consistently warned against international inaction concerning the atrocities and massacres transpiring worldwide. Following the Syrian people’s abandonment to the Assad regime, its allies, and militias, similar atrocities have recurred in Ukraine following the Russian invasion, and now in Palestine at the hands of the Israeli entity.”
Rahmeh insists that the international community must establish a mechanism to deter criminals, pursue prosecution, and strengthen international peace and security. This is crucial to prevent the outbreak of further conflicts and the shedding of more innocent blood.
Rahmeh reiterates that the Syrian revolutionary forces affirm the right of the Palestinian people to establish their state with Jerusalem as its capital. He underscores the profound fraternal bond between the Syrian and Palestinian populations, both striving for freedom and independence from oppression and tyranny.
