Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, warned of the dangers of the Assad regime’s naturalization of Iranian militiamen whom it brought in to aid it in its war against the Syrian people. He said that this move serves the expansionist project of the Tehran regime and rewards Iran for its crimes against the Syrian people.
Rahmeh stressed that he Assad regime’s granting of citizenship to sectarian militias is invalid and has no legal effect. He said that these moves aim to change the demographic landscape in Syria after the Assad regime displaced its people, robbed their property and destroyed their cities.
He stressed that the Assad regime is illegitimate and does not represent the Syrian people, adding that it is a mere puppet in the hands of Russia and Iran. He pointed out that the Iranian militias are now controlling many parts of Syria, especially in Aleppo, Homs, Damascus and Deir Ezzor. He said that this requires urgent Arab intervention to confront the Iranian plans in Syria and to prevent the spread of the danger of the Tehran regime to neighboring countries.
Rahmeh stressed that the Syrian people’s struggle will not stop until the dream of all Syrians is achieved in a free and dignified state, in which there is no place for Assad and the occupying forces. He stressed that Syria will only belong to its people, and that the Syrian people will eliminate the terrorism and devastation left by this regime.
