On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) Haytham Rahmeh expressed his support for Syrian women who face oppression, killing and detention in the Assad regime’s prisons, known as “human slaughterhouses”.
Rahmeh said that thousands of women are being subjected to various forms of violence in the detention centers of the Assad regime, denouncing the international community’s failure to save the most vulnerable groups in society from the terrorism of the Assad regime.
He appreciated the efforts of the United Nations to support Syrian women, calling on the influential countries in the Syrian file to deal seriously and positively with the file, especially with regards to detainees. He stressed the necessity of implementing UN Resolution 2254 and taking effective action to achieve political transition in Syria.
