Rebel fighters earlier today shot down a regime SU-22 fighter jet while it was bombing rebel positions in Al-Eis hill south of Aleppo. The aircraft crashed to the ground near the nearby rebel-held town of Kafr Hamra. Activists published photos and videos of the pilot who was captured alive after he parachuted to the ground.
Member of the Syrian Coalition’s political committee Yusuf Mahalli called on the UN Security Council to intervene to deter the Assad regime’s repeated breaches of the “cessation of hostilities” agreement. Mahalli stressed the need for Assad’s allies to put pressure on his regime to stop aerial bombardment of the liberated areas.
Mahalli also stressed the Assad regime must abide by the UN resolutions as a prerequisite for achieving political transition in Syria in line with the Geneva Communiqué of 2012 and UN Security Council resolutions, particularly resolution 2254 (2015).
Mahalli warned of the collapse of the truce if the Assad regime’s violations did not stop immediately. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
