The Syrian Coalition called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities towards the situation in Hama Central Prison by taking immediate action in order to ensure the safety of detainees.
Hundreds of regime security forces were seen after noon today assembled outside the Hama Central Prison amid fears of a potential massacre against detainees in the prison.
The Syrian Coalition called on the International Committee of the Red Cross to visit the prison and assess the latest developments there and to take the necessary action in order to ensure the safety of all detainees in the prison.
The Syrian Coalition reaffirmed its support for the detainees’ demands for the full implementation of the terms of the agreement reached with detainees on May 9.
The refusal of the Assad regime to implement the agreement has sparked renewed unrest in the prison. Detainees resumed their prison revolt as a last resort to demand the implementation of the agreement and the reclamation of their rights.
The Syrian Coalition emphasized the need to fully implement the recommendations put forward on January 27, 2016 by the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria mandated by the UN Human Rights Council to investigate all human rights violations in Syria. These recommendations must be implemented in their entirety without exception under any pretext or excuse.
The Syrian Coalition reiterated that the file of detainees in Assad’s prisons will always remain a top priority and will never be subject to negotiations or bargaining under any circumstances. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
