The Team of the Emergency Response Coordinators in Syria said that the international community’s ignoring of the sanctions imposed on the Assad regime risks paving the way for funding the regime’s military machine.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Team said that the visit by the United Nations rapporteur on the impact of sanctions on human rights in Syria to the regime-held areas is an indirect prelude to stopping the international mechanism for the delivery of the cross-border humanitarian aid to Syria.
The statement lamented the fact that no such visits were made to the camps for the IDP to ascertain their needs, the most prominent of which is returning to their homes from which they were displaced as a result of the crimes committed by Russia and the Assad regime.
The Team also indicated that these visits will reflect negatively on all parties seeking to re-legitimize the Assad regime, stressing that all such attempts, whether they were secret or public, are doomed to failure. (Source: SOC’s media department)
