George Sabra, former head of the Syrian Coalition, said that the remarks made by National Reconciliation Minister Ali Haider, one of Assad’s associates, are “hollow statements that are prefabricated in Iran.” Sabra’s statement came in response to Haider’s accusation of the Syrian Coalition that it “is imposing impossible conditions for participation in Geneva II.” Sabra ruled out the inability of the Syrian Coalition to “form of a single delegation” to negotiate with the regime. Sabra stressed that “the crippling condition for participation in the peace conference is the survival of Bashar al Assad and his cronies in the transitional phase.” Furthermore, Sabra pointed out that the “the Assad regime and its allies are setting impossible conditions ahead of Geneva II by insisting that Assad has a political role in the future of Syria, they are trying to whitewash his tarnished image after the massacres committed by his troops against the Syrian people.” Sabra also stated that “in case the Syrian Coalition agreed to going to Geneva, it is certain that it will go with one united delegation. It is our right, just as the right of the Assad regime to send a single and united delegation to Geneva.” Sabra concluded his statement saying that if a single delegation was not formed by the Syrian opposition, then, this means that the revolution is under a real plot from within the opposition, in the case of multiple delegations were formed, whether in this or in any other conference.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
