Member of the political committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Munther Sarras, has strongly condemned the artillery shelling conducted by the Assad regime on Tuesday, targeting civilian homes in the town of Afes, east of Idlib. The attack resulted in the death of a woman and the injury of her sister and elderly mother.
In a press statement, Sarras emphasized that tragedies like these will persist as long as the Assad regime remains in power. He criticized the ongoing international failure to hold the regime accountable for its actions, which continuously target innocent civilians.
Sarras highlighted that all the victims of this bombing were women, asserting that such attacks cannot be justified under any circumstances. He stressed the urgent need for substantial international intervention to hold the regime accountable for this atrocious crime and all its crimes against the Syrian people.
Sarras urged the international community to actively support the political transition in accordance with UN resolutions on Syria, particularly emphasizing the importance of implementing the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolutions 2118 and 2254.
The Civil Defense has released images of the injured elderly woman, depicting her covered in blood. It was reported that the two wounded individuals were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
