Member of the Syrian Coalition Abdul Basit Sida denounces the defamatory campaign against Islam and Arabs by “those who claim they are defending the rights of Kurds,” stressing that “we strongly condemn this slanderous campaign as it is detrimental to the Kurds before the Arabs and offends beliefs of people, including the Kurds.”
Sida warns that the Arab-Kurdish tensions and mutual accusation campaigns we are witnessing now cause the utmost concern, raising alarm of the consequences of falling for attempts to fuel tension.
He attributes the emergence of these campaigns to ISIS’s attack on the Ayn al-Arab (Kobani) area, forcing over 200,000 people to flee their homes in a matter of a week. “ISIS’s onslaught has further deepened the wounds and increased the frustration among the Kurdish population.” “ISIS’s abhorrent crimes must be explicitly and openly condemned by those who claim respect for human rights without and endorse a national democratic inclusive project,” he added.
He also said that the YPD attack on the towns of Tal Hamis, Tal Brak and Tal Abyad have caused Arabic-Kurdish tensions, which was exploited by ultra-nationalists from both sides to support projects that serve none by the Assad regime.
“The dual policy adopted by the YPD further fuel the Arab-Kurdish tensions not only in Syria, but also in the whole region. While it claims it defends the rights of the Kurds, it claims it does not endorse a nationalist project.
Sida also said that the YPD accuses the Kurdish forces outside its umbrella of seeking separatist projects and claims it is working for the unity of Syria. It expressed this view in many conferences that were held recently, but everyone knows that this party had taken the Syrian Kurds hostages in its regional projects and alliances.
The ongoing tragedy in Kobanî and rural Al-Hasaka is the result of the interaction of the practices of ISIS with uncalculated policies of the YPD.
Sida concluded his remarks stressing that addressing this very critical situation requires boldness, wisdom and foresight by the various parties as the rapid developments portend disasters. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
