The Ministry of Defense of the Syrian Interim Government (SIG) issued a statement regarding arms control in the liberated areas, stressing that it imposed a complete ban on weapons inside populated areas.
The Ministry pointed out that the problem of uncontrolled possession of arms in the liberated areas is a negative, uncivilized phenomenon that sometimes leads to spreading chaos that results in the loss of innocent lives.
The statement added that the Ministry is seeking to building institutions that reassure the citizens and to establish a state of security and safety throughout Syria.
It pointed out that the legal office at the Department of Military Ethics confirmed the implementation of the circular of the Ministry of Defense No. 113, which prohibits weapons in populated areas except under an official mission.
The Ministry called on both the military and civilians to fully abide by the circular of the Ministry, stressing that “the uncontrolled spread of weapons has become harmful to the security and stability of the liberated areas.”
