Abdul Majeed Barakat, the Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), emphasized that the Assad regime continues to employ repressive and military tactics without any alteration in its harsh approach toward civilians. This contradicts the assertions made by nations supporting the regime, aiming to portray it as more acceptable on regional and international platforms.
Barakat underscored that the Assad regime’s repressive methods have remained consistent since 2011, with no discernible changes. He pointed out that the security operation recently initiated by the Military Intelligence Division in the Mezzeh neighborhood in Damascus serves as evidence of this unchanged approach.
Highlighting the need for a political transition as outlined in UN resolutions on Syria, particularly Resolutions 2118 and 2254, Barakat urged the international community to actively engage in the political process to implement these resolutions. He called for collective efforts to bring an end to the suffering of the Syrian people and restore security and stability to the country.
The military intelligence of the Assad regime on Sunday launched a large-scale security campaign in the Mezzeh district of Damascus, resulting in the arrest of numerous individuals.
