The Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition, (SOC) Abdul Majeed Barakat, expressed his support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s accusations that Russia is responsible for committing crimes in Syria and Ukraine. He stressed the need for an international consensus to condemn Russia and take serious measures to stop these crimes, which threaten international peace and security.
Barakat stated that Russia has exacerbated the crisis in Syria and has participated in the Assad regime’s heinous crimes against civilians, including women and children, over several years. Russia has consistently rejected any political solutions and has supported a bloody military approach.
He pointed out that Russia’s support for Assad, coupled with international inaction, has given the Assad regime the green light to continue committing massacres and exacerbating the suffering of the Syrian people, which has persisted for more than 12 years.
During his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of tearing Syria apart and turning it into rubble.
