The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) expressed its full support for the ongoing popular uprising in Suwayda province against the Assad regime and its policies that have led to the deterioration of the living conditions in the province and in Syria generally.
Protestors renounced the regime’s handing over of the country’s resources to the foreign occupations that it brought to kill and oppress the Syrian people.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the SOC said that protestors are openly demanding the overthrow of the Assad regime despite the brutality of its security apparatuses which intervened directly to suppress the protests. It said: “This defiance reflects the Syrian people’s longing for freedom and getting rid of the murderous Assad regime, as well as confirm that the Assad regime is illegitimate and does not represent the Syrian people.”
The SOC called on the international community not to ignore the popular protests in Suwayda, and to stop procrastination and inaction in Syria.
It also called for seeking decisively and seriously to achieve a political transition in accordance with UN resolutions so as to put an end to the tragedy in Syria and help achieve the Syrian people’s aspirations to build a state of freedom and dignity away from the Assad regime and its symbols.
