The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) has condemned in the strongest terms the Swedish authorities’ allowing an extremist to burn a copy of the Holy Qur’an in front of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm and renounced any act that may insult religion and sanctities.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the SOC said that this act “constitutes a serious provocation for about two billion Muslims around the world; contradicts the values of coexistence; and carries messages of hate, violence and discrimination.”
The SOC warned of hate campaigns against Islam and calls on the international community to criminalize any practices that insult religions and religious symbols so as to ensure international peace and security.
