Vice-president of the Syrian Opposition Coalition for Foreign Affairs, Abdulahad Astepho, sent a congratulatory letter to the new French envoy for Syria, Brigitte Curmi, wishing her success in her new post.
Astepho affirmed the SOC’s readiness to work with the French ambassador to “end the suffering of the Syrian people through a political solution in accordance with UN resolutions, especially UN Security Council resolutions 2254 and 2118.”
Astepho expressed his confidence in France’s essential, effective role in supporting the Syrian people, the fight against terrorism, and advancing the political process.
France had earlier announced the appointment of Ambassador Brigitte Curmi as the Elysee’s envoy in charge of the Syrian affairs, succeeding outgoing envoy Mr. François Sénémaud.
Curmi had previously held the position of France’s ambassador to Libya and Malta. She was also as a senior advisor at the French embassy in Doha and head of the media department at the French embassy in Beirut. She has extensive experience in the affairs of the Arab world and the Middle East.
