President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, sent a congratulatory letter to Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel on his appointment as the new permanent representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, wishing him all success in serving his country and common Arab and Islamic issues.
Al-Meslet stressed the important, effective role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Arab and international affairs, expressing his appreciation for Riyadh’s continued support for the Syrian people at the humanitarian and political levels. He also hailed Saudi Arabia’s relentless efforts to find a political solution that meets the demands of the Syrian people, puts an end to the Syrian tragedy, and restores stability to the region.
Al-Meslet commended the Kingdom’s firm position in supporting the Syrian cause and confronting attempts to normalize relations with the Assad regime. He stressed the importance of the Saudi political and diplomatic role that is capable of helping find a solution in Syria and bring about a genuine political transition in accordance with the Geneva Communique of 2012 and relevant UN resolutions, especially resolutions 2118 and 2254.
Al-Meslet also sent a letter to the Kingdom’s outgoing representative to the UN, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Mouallimi, to thank him for his memorable stances and courageous words at the UN Security Council and General Assembly, which expressed what was in the hearts of the Syrian people and told the truth.
