As part of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s efforts to strengthen its international and regional relations, especially with sisterly and friendly countries, a SOC delegation headed by Nasr Al-Hariri met with officials of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, headed by Selçuk Ünal Director General for Syria at the Turkish MFA. Both sides discussed the latest political developments as well as the SOC’s vision and plan of action for the months to come.
Al-Hariri was accompanied by Vice President Ruba Habboush, Secretary-General, Abdelbaset Abdullatif, member of the political committee, Badr Jamous, and member of the General Assembly Ahmed Bakkoura.
The two sides stressed the need to continue to work on the upcoming session of the Constitutional Committee in Geneva.
Al-Hariri talked about the regime’s violations in the de-escalation zones in northwestern Syria, stressing the need to put an end to these crimes and obligating the Russian side to implement the agreement signed in Sochi. He warned of the collapse of the agreement and its consequences on the political process and the risks of the spread of the coronavirus.
He also stressed the importance of monitoring the health situation in the liberated areas and opening horizons for cooperation between the Ministry of Health in the Syrian Interim Government and the Turkish Ministry of Health. The World Health Organization is yet to implement the agreed upon plans to confront the virus.
Al-Hariri pointed out that the SOC is seeking to improve the living conditions and ease the crises in the liberated areas.
Moreover, he talked about the SOC’s plan of action by activating the diplomatic tracks and appointing representatives at the major actors as part of its plan to strengthen its international relations. The plan also includes activating the work of SOC’s departments, offices and committees and expanding their executive role through administrative restructuring, and the development of ambitious future plans of action to serve and support Syrians, especially the women and youth.
Al-Hariri said that the SOC is working to strengthen relations with its components by strengthening coordination and cooperation and working together to strengthen the SOC’s role at the local and international levels. He pointed out that preparations are underway to hold a national dialogue conference and to incorporate new parties, national figures and other groups.
For their part, the Turkish Foreign Ministry officials talked about the SOC’s important role in the next stage as they renewed their country’s support for the SOC and the cause of the Syrian people.
