A delegation from the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) comprising Secretary-General Abdelbaset Abdullatif and member of the political committee and SOC’s representative in Turkey, Nazir al-Hakim visited the family of the youngster Hamza Ajjan who died in a physical assault in the Turkish city of Bursa on Wednesday.
The delegation offered their warm condolences to Ajjan’s family and loved ones, expressing their deep regret for this painful loss. They stressed the SOC will closely follow investigations with the Turkish authorities so that the perpetrators receive just punishment.
SOC’s President, Nasr al-Hariri, talked to Ajjan’s father over the telephone to offer his condolences. He said: “Hamza set a shining example of courage and noble character.” He stressed that this crime does not represent the Turkish people who are hosting the largest number of Syrian refugees and who supported the Syrian people through thick and thin.
Abdullatif expressed his confidence in the Turkish judiciary to hold the perpetrators accountable.
He pointed out that the incident in which Hamza died is an individual act that is alien to the true nature of the Turkish people who showed genuine sympathy and unmatched generosity to the Syrian refugees. He cited the reaction of Turkish public opinion renouncing this incident and demanding justice.
For his part, al-Hakim said that the Turkish authorities are keen on preventing a repeat of such incidents and holding the perpetrators accountable, reaffirming the SOC’s support for Hamz’a family in its ordeal. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
