The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) said that the Russian airstrikes that targeted the Duwaila region in Idlib province on Monday represent a blatant violation of the agreement related to the complete cessation of hostilities in the fourth de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria.
In a press release issued on Monday, the SOC said that despite lack of any military moves, confrontation, or escalation by the Syrian National Army (SNA), warplanes of the Russian occupation forces on Monday committed a criminal attack against a SNA camp in Idlib province. The airstrikes killed dozens of SNA fighters, with search and rescue operations are still continuing and amid calls for blood donation.
In addition to targeting the camp lactated in the Duwaila area in rural Idlib, the Russian airstrikes also hit the village of Duwaila and a nearby IDP camp, causing many civilian casualties of whom dozens are still buried under the rubble. The SOC stressed that the guarantor of the agreement has become the party that is breaching it and threatening to completely sabotage it.
The SOC called on the international community to take a firm stand denouncing the Russian aggression and the breach which seriously threatens the ceasefire agreement and opens the doors for further escalation.
The SOC stressed the need to put an end to the daily and escalating attacks by Russia, the Assad regime and Iranian militias against civilians in the region. It also warns of serious risks of the continued manipulation and breach of the agreement. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
