The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) condemned the repeated shelling by the Assad regime and the Iranian militias on Idlib province. SOC’s President Nasr Al-Hariri stressed that targeting Idlib and Ariha represent a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement and a dangerous escalation.
In comments he posted on Twitter, Al-Hariri called for an urgent international response from guarantors of the ceasefire agreement and international actors.
He pointed out that keeping silent on these crimes will send a wrong message to the criminal to continue his crime.
Local news outlets reported that the shelling killed eight people, including three children, after it directly hit civilian homes in the early morning hours of Wednesday.
SOC’s Secretary-General Abdelbaset Abdullatif said that the victims included children who were killed while on their way to a makeshift classroom. He stressed that the Assad regime and its backers’ continued shelling on civilian areas constituted a war crime that is taking place right under the nose of the whole world.
