The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) said that residents of Tafas, located in western rural Daraa, are once again enduring the terrifying onslaught of the Assad regime. The criminal forces of Assad launched a vicious attack on the town, following a period of besiegement and relentless bombing with tanks and rockets earlier this week.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the SOC said that the Assad regime is seeking to storm the town, which will lead to tragic loss of life among the residents and the displacement of hundreds of people. This ruthless campaign aims also to tighten control over the area and displace its population, further exacerbating the suffering of the Syrian people. Of particular concern is the regime’s plan to gain control of the agricultural lands, as the targeted area serves as Hauran’s food basket.
The SOC strongly condemned the Assad regime’s actions in Daraa, which represent a continuation of their criminal approach towards the Syrian people. The regime’s assertion of safety in areas under its control is nothing more than a false claim. Despite the so-called settlement in the region, its security services and brutal forces persist in committing numerous violations against the local population.
The SOC added: “The Assad regime demonstrates a complete disregard for any initiatives concerning Syria and obstructs all efforts towards a political solution. Instead, it consistently opts for the military option in order to bypass UN resolutions, often in coordination with its allies. Moreover, it actively seeks to empower Iranian-affiliated militias along the Syrian-Jordanian border, further advancing the heinous agenda adopted by the Iranian regime.”
The SOC called upon the international community and our Arab brethren to take a firm stance against the Assad regime and refrain from providing it with further opportunities. It is vital to recognize that the regime, driven by its allies Iran and Russia, acts solely in pursuit of their own interests. Any opening or allowance for the regime poses a grave threat to the Syrian people, who continue to endure its brutality with the unwavering support of its allies.
