The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), headed by Nasr Al-Hariri, received senior advisor to the German Foreign Ministry for Syrian affairs, Klemens Semtner and thanked him for the cooperation and coordination he had carried out during his work in the service of common interests of the two countries.
Participants in the meeting discussed latest on the ground and political developments as SOC’s president emphasized Germany’s important role in Syria at all levels, especially the strong support for the political process, reaching a just political solution in accordance with UN resolution 2254, and achieving democratic transition.
Al-Hariri commended Germany’s role and its significant contribution in providing humanitarian aid to those in need in Syria, most notably its efforts on the UN Security Council to renew a resolution on the cross-border delivery of humanitarian aid.
Al-Hariri also praised German government and the German people’s hosting of Syrian refugees as Germany hosts the largest number of Syrian refugees on its territory after the neighboring countries.
For his part, Semtner reaffirmed his country’s continued support for the cause of the Syrian people in achieving their legitimate aspirations for freedom and dignity. He said that Germany will continue to work on the issues of accountability as crucial to reaching a political solution in Syria.
