The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) stressed that the Assad regime’s horrendous massacre that was brought to light by the Guardian newspaper is just one of thousands of horrible massacres that the Assad regime and its allies have been committing against the Syrian people.
The Guardian on Wednesday published a chilling video, date stamped 16 April 2013, showing dozens of blindfolded and handcuffed detainees who are shot dead by Assad regime’s militants as they are forced to run towards an execution pit in the Tadamon suburb of Damascus. The bodies were then set on fire.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the SOC said: “What the Syrian people have already known has now become visible to the whole world, leaving no room for doubt as to the responsibility of this brutal regime for numerous massacres.”
The SOC stressed that this crime is a war crime the perpetrators of which are known by their full names, adding that such a crime requires referring the Assad regime to the International Criminal Court.
“There will no peace in Syria and the region as long as this murderous regime stays in power. The regime committed all kinds of crimes against the Syrian people, including slaughtering with knives, shooting, bombing with artillery, barrel bombs and planes, and suffocation with chemical weapons,” the SOC added.
The SOC said that these atrocities require expediting international accountability, serving justice and an end to the tragedy of the Syrian people.
