Member of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Basil Ghuneim, said that Iran and the Assad regime are avidly seeking to control the entire province of Dara’a so that Tehran can be able to exploit this file politically in its negotiations over its nuclear file.
Regarding the agreement that is being reached in the town of Tafas in rural Dara’a, Ghuneim said that the Assad regime has so far failed to take control of the entire Dara’a province as there are many areas that are still under the control of the armed opposition. He made it clear that the Assad regime is now using the same tactics in different regions by fabricating false pretexts to attack these areas and force their people to either flee or accept forced settlement agreements.
Ghuneim stressed that everything that the Assad regime is doing aims to please Iran. He said that Tafas is located in western rural Dara’a, which the sectarian Iranian militias are seeking to penetrate in order to control the entire south for drug trade and to blackmail the international community.
He added that Iran effectively violated the agreement that prevents its presence in southern Syria by making its sectarian militias dress in the uniform of the Assad regime’s forces, stressing that Iran strongly supports and directs the Assad regime’s military operations in the south.
