The Syrian Opposition Coalition said that the latest developments in rural Deir Ezzor begun to assume a very grave nature, warning that these developments require a serious stance by the international actors as the failure to take action will lead to further escalation affecting everyone.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the SOC said that the PYD terrorist militia which controls the region continues to commit various types of violations and crimes, such as burning crops, imposing alien ideologies and approaches, recruitment of child soldiers, arbitrary arrests, demographic change, assassinations, and killing under torture.
“Chaos and lack of security are the responsibilities of this militia and those who support it. The repercussions of this chaos will not be confined to Rural Deir Ezzor, but will spill over to all the areas under the control of the PYD militia and where it is committing systematic violations of the values of freedom, justice, and democracy,” the SOC added.
The SOC went on to say that it reached out to the international actors to urge them to assume their responsibilities with regard to the recent developments. We warn that dealing with these developments must be done with a high degree of sensitivity to avoid further escalation and discord among the components of the Syrian society and ensure that the situation does not spin out of control.
The SOC affirmed that the responsibility for maintaining the safety and security of our people rests with the parties sponsoring the forces on the ground in this region.
