President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Nasr Al-Hariri, sent a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Muhammad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, to commend Kuwait’s important role in the Arab Gulf reconciliation. He said that the SOC is looking forward to Kuwait playing a similar role in reaching a political solution that fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, dignity and democracy.
Al-Hariri stressed the important role of the State of Kuwait in Arab and international affairs, as well as its relentless pursuit and steadfast, principled position calling for expediting the efforts to reach an inclusive political solution in Syria in a way that achieves the interests and demands of the Syrian people and restores stability to the entire region.
Al-Hariri highly welcomed the positive steps that have been made towards the restoration of fraternal relations amongst the Arab Gulf states to their previous states. He praised the important efforts made by the wise leadership of the State of Kuwait, and its pivotal role in reaching this success that the peoples of the Gulf and all Arab peoples have long aspired to. He also lauded Kuwait’s pioneering diplomatic role in resolving conflicts as well as bringing peace and stability to the region.
Al-Hariri added that the SOC is looking forward to Kuwait playing an important diplomatic role in supporting the efforts of the United Nations and the UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, to reach a political solution in line with the Geneva Communique of 2012 and the relevant UN resolutions, especially UN Resolution 2254 (2015) and Resolution 2118 (2013).
Al-Hariri extended his sincere gratitude and appreciation to the government of the State of Kuwait for its generous political, humanitarian and legal support for the Syrian people, especially in the issue of accountability. He also called on Kuwait to support the activation of the Arab position towards the Syrian issue; support the rights of the Syrian people; and push the political solution in Syria forward in a way that fulfills the aspiration of the Syrian people for freedom, justice, dignity and democracy.
