President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, and Vice-President Abdulahad Astepho, held a meeting with Belgian Special Envoy for Syria, Hubert Corman, in Brussels. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the latest developments in the international and regional political landscape concerning Syria.
During the meeting, the SOC’s delegation emphasized the necessity of sustained European support for the Syrian people. They called for actions that would reinforce the isolation of the criminal regime and hold it accountable for the war crimes it has committed against the Syrian population over the past 12 years.
Al-Meslet highlighted the significance of the European Union’s recent position, which rejects any form of normalization with the Assad regime. He commended the EU’s emphasis on the implementation of key UN resolutions, particularly the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolution 2254, as well as the safeguarding of the Syrian people’s rights.
In response, the Belgian envoy reiterated his country’s stance of rejecting normalization with the Assad regime unless a political solution is achieved in accordance with UN Resolution 2254. He further emphasized the need for increased international efforts to reach a permanent and comprehensive solution in Syria.
The SOC’s delegation stressed the importance of a resolute European stance towards the actions of the Assad regime. They urged the international community not to leave the Syrian people to face their fate alone against the military machinery of the criminal regime and its allies.
