The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) on Wednesday held a meeting with the leadership of the Kurdish National Council. In attendance were SOC’s Vice-president Oqab Yahya, Secretary of the political committee Riyad Al-Hassan, Coordinator of the SOC’s Political Parties Committee Abdullah Kaddo, and Coordinator of the SOC’s Office of Syndicates and Unions Abdul Majeed Barakat.
Participants in the meeting also included senior members of the Kurdish National Council Muhammad Ismail, Suleiman Ossou and Faisal Yusuf who talked via a video link.
Participants emphasized the importance of these meetings in strengthening fraternal relations between the SOC and the Council, which is one of the SOC’s main components.
Participants discussed the issue of membership in the SOC and a proposal to replace some members of the Kurdish National Council to include women. They also discussed the reforms that the SOC has been introducing in various areas, the documents recently issued by the SOC, and the areas being administered by the Syrian Interim Government. They stressed the importance of the Kurdish National Council’s participation in the SOC’s activities in the liberated areas.
Moreover, participants stressed the importance of ascertaining the reality in these areas, the safe return of the people, including the Kurdish citizens to their areas in safe conditions, the return of homes and property to their rightful owners, and putting an end to violations that some individuals and parties commit to discredit the Syrian Revolution.
They also pointed to the need to present the best model in these areas, stressing the need to activate the committee to monitor violations, as well as to provide lists of households who wish to return to their original areas in Afrin, Azaz, Ras al-Ayn, among other areas.
