The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) held an expanded meeting that brought together President Nasr Al-Hariri, Head of the Syrian Negotiations Commission (SNC), Anas Abdah, Co-chair of the Constitutional Committee, Hadi Al-Bahra, and members of the SOC’s presidency and the SOC’s representatives in the SNC and the Constitutional Committee.
Participants discussed the ongoing preparations by SNC’s representatives in the Constitutional Committee and the most important papers and files that had been prepared to be submitted during the upcoming talks in Geneva.
Participants reaffirmed they stood ready to positively engage in the third round of talks by the Constitutional Committee. They also discussed the Assad regime’s position, the extent of its seriousness in engaging in the political process, its refusal to seriously engage in the efforts to put an end to the suffering of the Syrian people, and its refusal to discuss the substance of the work of the Constitutional Committee.
They also reaffirmed commitment to reaching a political solution that fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people; guarantees their rights; and lays the foundations of a state that is based on equal citizenship in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254. The Constitutional Committee is one of the four baskets in the solution roadmap laid out in UN resolution 2254.
Participants called on the UN as well as major reginal and international actors to revitalize the negotiation process on other baskets in Geneva without further delay. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
