The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) presidential body and political committee held a meeting with representatives in the Syrian Negotiations Commission and the Constitutional Committee to discuss latest preparations for the upcoming round of talks by the Constitutional Committee.
SOC’s President, Nasr Al-Hariri, stressed the need to revitalize the political process by opening the rest of the baskets laid out in UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and discuss preparations for the upcoming round of talks to discuss the constitutional provisions that the Assad regime has so far refused to discuss through obstruction and procrastination.
Al-Hariri also stressed the need to focus on the major issues that must be included in the new constitution, namely those related to achieving political transition, the issues of public freedoms and political rights for individuals and parties, the form and system rule of the state, human rights and circulation of powers.
Al-Hariri underscored the importance of the SOC’s efforts to reach out to broad spectrum of components of the Syrian people as he gave an overview on the results of these efforts.
Al-Hariri stressed the need to continue working with the United Nations in order to discuss the rest of the baskets laid in UN Security Council Resolution 2254, especially the formation of a transitional governing body. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
