The Syrian Opposition Coalition mourned the renowned Syrian novelist, thinker, and historian Khairy Al-Zahabi, who passed away at the age of 75 on Monday. It asked Allah to have mercy and forgiveness on him and inspire his family and loved ones patience and solace.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the SOC said that Al-Zahabi significantly contributed to the cultural and artistic movement as a novelist, scenarist, and translator from the English language. The editor of many Syrian cultural periodicals, his passing was a huge loss for Syrian culture, the SOC added.
The SOC said that “Al-Zahabi had resisted tyranny for many years. Upon the outbreak of the Syrian revolution, he sided with the voice of the free people and left the country to escape the Assad regime’s oppression and to continue his struggle.”
“He died in France, leaving behind a huge legacy of literary works that supplement the treasury of Syrian writers and intellectuals with his creativity and literature.”
