The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) stressed that opening crossing points between the liberated areas and the regime-held areas will give a lifeline to a murderous and internationally isolated regime on the verge of a total economic collapse.
In a press release issued on Friday, the SOC said that following the failure of the Russian attempts to seek support from the Arab Gulf states, Russia is trying to circumvent Western sanctions imposed on the Assad regime by seeking to open crossing points with the liberated areas.
“The move aims to supply the cash-strapped regime with foreign currency and mitigate the consequences of the Assad regime’s failure to manage the country’s collapsed economy and its depletion of the country’s resources in the brutal war it is waging on the Syrian people,” the SOC added.
The SOC warned that opening these crossings will raise serious security concerns as the Assad regime will use them for drug trafficking and will flood the liberated areas with terrorists and car bombs thus further threatening people’s lives.
“Over the past several years, the Assad regime has proven its failure, criminality, and financial and moral bankruptcy. The world must not accept the return of the regime to international fold as its departure and punishment for its crimes has become only a matter of time.”
The SOC went on: “The Assad regime is further besieging the Syrian people and increasing the pressure on them, especially those living in the areas under its controls with the aim of using them as a tool to stay in power and ensure its rehabilitation.”
The SOC urged all Syrians in the regime-held areas to revolt and announce civil disobedience to expedite the regime’s downfall and give way for a new Syria and a new homeland for all Syrians where they live in freedom, justice and dignity. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
