The President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, strongly condemned the recent artillery shelling by the forces of the Assad regime on towns and villages in southern rural Idlib. Al-Meslet emphasized that this ongoing atrocity against the Syrian people, persisting for over 12 years, is primarily a result of the international community’s failure to implement UN resolutions and hold accountable those responsible for war crimes.
According to activists, the towns and villages of Horsh Benin, Al-Ruwaiha, Afis, Maarblit, Al-Bara, and Kansafra in the southern countryside of Idlib were subjected to intense artillery shelling by the forces of the Assad regime, resulting in civilian casualties, including children.
Al-Meslet highlighted that the Assad regime continues its merciless killings of innocent civilians and targets their homes to deprive them of safety and stability. He urged the international community to take immediate action to halt the ongoing massacre perpetrated against the Syrian people throughout these years.
Furthermore, Al-Meslet reaffirmed that the core issue in Syria is the uprising of the Syrian people against a tyrannical regime and a president responsible for crimes against his own people. He called for a complete transformation in the country, leading to a new phase characterized by justice, freedom, and equality. This transition should ensure that all citizens, regardless of their background or sect, can fully enjoy their rights.
