The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) said that since yesterday evening, it has contacted many Turkish officials regarding the latest statements of the Turkish Foreign Minister. It pointed out that they all reaffirmed their full support for the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
In a press release issued on Friday, the SOC reaffirmed its commitment to a political solution, ridding the country of the murderous Assad regime, holding it accountable, and achieving the aspirations of the Syrian people. It also reaffirmed its commitment to the principles and goals of the revolution until the overthrow of the Assad regime.
“It is about time that the international community do justice to the Syrian people and push the political solution forward so as to ensure a genuine political transition and put an end to the years long political deadlock and human tragedy,” the SOC added.
Moreover, the SOC said that “the Syrian people chose the path of the revolution and clearly defined their goals 11 years ago. Hundreds of thousands lost their lives and millions more were injured, detained and displaced in pursuit of freedom, dignity and justice, and to get rid of the murderous Assad regime.”
“The Assad regime has committed thousands of war crimes against the defenseless Syrian people. Photos of al-Tadamon Massacre is still stuck in the minds of the whole world, along with the photos of the bodies of more than 10,000 detainees who were killed under torture in Assad’s prisons and which were leaked by a military photographer code-named Caesar. More appalling were the photos of little children gasping for air after Assad gassed them with chemical weapons, in addition to thousands of crimes in various Syrian cities and towns.”
The SOC stressed the need for serious work by all countries of the free world in order to establish an international coalition tasked with holding the Assad regime accountable for killing a million Syrians and displacing more than half of the Syrian people. The SOC and all Syrian national forces are seeking this goal.
“The demonstrations that took to the streets in northwestern Syria late on Thursday showed that the revolution is still burning in the hearts of the free people. It is worth emphasizing that we denounce the transgressions that took place and the burning of the flag of a sister country with whom were are making sacrifices for the liberation of the land and the fight against terrorist militias, and which hosts about four million Syrians on its territory.”
