President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition, Nasr al-Hariri, sent a letter to Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, to urge strengthening his country’s role in the political process in Syria and pushing the Arab League to work to find a political solution in the country.
Al-Hariri stressed Morocco’s pivotal role in the Middle East and North Africa region through its neutrality, active diplomacy, and effective mediation. He said that the foreign policy being pursued by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which is based on independence and neutrality in the region’s crises and support for settling disputes through peaceful means, consolidated the status of the Kingdom of Morocco as a haven of peace in the region.
Moroccan mediation efforts to bring about peace would open new horizons for sustainable political and economic stability, capable of alleviating the suffering of the peoples of the region, as well as strengthening internal and regional peace and security, he added.
Al-Hariri added: “Your country’s diplomatic acumen and effective foreign policy have made the Kingdom of Morocco a major regional actor that is highly respected and trusted by the international community.”
Moreover, Al-Hariri said that the SOC is looking forward to an effective, influential, and constructive role by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan government in Syria by revitalizing the Arab role with the aim of finding a comprehensive political solution in Syria that meets the demands of the Syrian people and restores stability to the region.
“We share with you the belief that a comprehensive political solution is the only way to put an end to the suffering of our people and to achieve sustainable peace and security.”
Al-Hariri extended the SOC’s thanks and gratitude to the Kingdom of Morocco for its honorable stances and for its vital role in the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the United Nations.
He said that since day one, the Kingdom of Morocco has sought an end to the humanitarian tragedy in Syria. It is also helping the Syrian people restore their security and stability; build a better future; and preserve Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity through the full implementation of relevant UN resolutions, especially UN resolution 2254 and the Geneva Communiqué of 2012.
