Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, commended Ukraine’s announcement that it was severing its relations with the Assad regime as a positive step, albeit too late. He stressed the need to strip the Assad regime of international legitimacy and expel its representatives from the United Nations and its agencies.
Rahmeh added that the Assad regime is illegitimate and does not represent the Syrian people. He stressed that the regime’s recognition of Abkhazia, Ossetia and the Russian-occupied regions does not represent Syria, and a mere desperate attempt by the criminal regime to return to the international fold.
Rahmeh also said that Bashar al-Assad has become one of Putin’s tools in his war and colonialist actions. He stressed that the civilized world should have cut its ties with the regime as a natural response to its atrocities, rather than a response to political positions that do not have any value.
