A member of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Ayman Al-Asimi, has issued a warning about the potential for a major civilian massacre in the town of Tafas, located in western rural Dara’a. Al-Asimi urgently called for both Arab and international action to prevent the imminent attack that the Assad regime and Iranian militias are preparing to launch against the town.
Al-Asimi highlighted that the Assad regime and Iranian militias have resumed their attempts at military expansion, taking advantage of the rewards gained through the normalization of relations with certain Arab countries. He emphasized that their strategy is evident, focusing on inflicting mass atrocities upon civilians in order to gain control over various regions.
Al-Asimi stressed that after enduring years of relentless attacks by the forces of the Assad regime and sectarian militias, and facing continuous displacement due to military operations, the Syrian people cannot bear the consequences of being displaced once again.
In recent hours, the Assad regime forces have intensified their bombardment of Tafas as a prelude to storming the town. This has caused panic among the civilian population, with clashes encroaching upon residential neighborhoods and dozens of civilians being displaced to nearby towns.
Local sources reported that the Assad regime forces employed tanks and heavy machine guns to bombard the southern outskirts of Tafas. Clashes broke out between the regime forces and town residents, who attempted to resist the impending storming, resulting in the loss of two civilian lives.
In recent days, the Assad regime forces have deployed military reinforcements, including tanks and armored vehicles, to the outskirts of Tafas in preparation for the planned assault.
