The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) has strongly condemned the ongoing abduction and forced recruitment of children and minors by the PYD terrorist militia in the areas under its control. The SOC has called on the international community to cease its support for this militia and compel it to release detainees, halt the kidnappings, and put an end to the recruitment of children.
Abdelbaset Abdullatif, a member of the SOC’s political committee, highlighted the persistent kidnappings carried out by the PYD terrorist militia for the purpose of mandatory recruitment. He urged for international pressure to be exerted on the militia to secure the release of all detainees and abductees, including two young girls named Aseel Haji Hassan and Beyal Aqil.
The Syrian Human Rights Committee also denounced the kidnapping of underage children by the PYD terrorist militia and the use of violence against the families who demand the safe return of their children. The committee demanded the immediate release of the kidnapped girl, Aseel, and an end to the threats against her family.
Furthermore, the committee emphasized that the PYD militia has consistently and systematically violated the Action Plan, which was established in collaboration with the United Nations and signed on July 1, 2019. The plan specifically aims to prevent and eradicate the recruitment of child soldiers under the age of 18.
The committee called upon countries supporting the PYD militia to exert pressure on it, ensuring compliance with international treaties and conventions related to the rights of children and human rights in general. It urged these countries not to turn a blind eye to the militia’s violations.
